This is an antique Japanese "Kakure" Christian statue, from when the Portuguese landed in Kyushu in the 16th century, and nearly converted (within 100 years) all of Japan to Christianity. After 1634 this religion was outlawed, yet I have met many Christians during my travels within Japan, and the whole country is even now today said to be 2% Christians --- this comes from a very old house and a very old family in Kyushu, along with some Samurai Armor that I was buying.
It looks to me to be Momyama Jidai i.e. circa 1550 to 1630, it is very reminiscent to me of a Renaissance Statue
I was told by experts that this is A statue of Joseph carrying the baby Jesus; Joseph has glass eyes, like Muromachi Buddhist Statues,
Very rare and very desirable USD $27,500

This is an Edo Buddhist Statue, in this case a 100 armed Kannon which one rarely sees, as they are so difficult to make. ALthough called the Hundred Armed Kannon this one actually has 20 arms.
